Next stop on our "royal" tour was Buckingham Palace. The palace is only open in the summer months when the Queen is at her other estates. One of the guides told me that this summer, the palace was open for two weeks, closed for three, and then reopened for visitors. She said when the Queen comes, all the temporary structures for visitors must be removed. That would be a long list of jobs...tens, covers over the railings, floor coverings, wall covers, guide signs, on and on. No pictures are allowed inside the palace.
Visiting the 19 state rooms, one can't help but be impressed. Absolutely beautiful, overwhelming too. I loved seeing the official entry where members of the family and wedding party entered following William and Kate's wedding last year. Inside the door is a beautiful receiving room with places to sit. There were stairs leading in all directions. The palace has 775 rooms and 78 bathrooms!
During our visit, the windows and doors facing the gardens were open. They overlook 30 acres of prime London real estate.
